Is music like a donut?

42. Are you sure your asking the right question? Define "music". Define "product". Is it the written down notes on a page? What if I just record without written music? How much royalties did Solomon Linda collect for writing and recording "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"? None! Is that fair or not? Should the artist get money for his/her art? Should the person who takes a work of art and creates/finds the people who want to pay for it worthy to get paid for doing it?

Music is free now. If the guy in the next car is playing his music loud, I can hear it but don't have to pay for it. So the listening is free to me. The creation of music/art takes time and materials. These cost money. Recording the music/art takes time and materials. Delivering the recording so that someone can experience it takes time and materials too. Usually time and materials cost something so someone has to pay for these things, even if they are donated. So define "free".
