Beercamp!
A week before I went to SXSW, I decided to drop the Content System I had been using, CChost, in favour of Drupal. Its a long (boring) story, but basically I realized I was trying to get this system to do something it wasn't meant to do. Flogging it. Repeatedly. Then turning the whip on myself.
So I decided to go with Drupal - the site your on right now. I had a week. I was fairly familiar with Drupal from working on Homeless Nation, but it was still a fairly big job.
I'd had some help already from local web 2.0 dude Sylvain Carle, and together we thought we might be able to assemble some local web talent and see if we could do some impromptu coding. The idea was inspired by the Barcamp idea - small impropmtu gatherings of coders, thinkers and designers to solve particular problems.
So with zero warning we launched the Mashpit 1.0 and waited to see who showed up.
Well, we did, obviously. Plus - Hugh, from Librivox.
And, to my delight, a random stranger! At least, to me.
His name was Josh and he turned out to be a very great guy. This was very cool to me - that someone with no vested interest would turn up to help. The beauty of Open Source. He wrote a detailed write up about our experience here - with some videos.
Thanks, Josh!
Here is his article - scroll down the page a bit cuz his permalink isn't working.

BeerCamp :)
Hi Brett,
Wow! Thanks for the appreciation. I loved the experience and getting to meet you, Sylvain and Hugh and know about your project.
You're right about the permalinks not working previously. I had a malfunctioning WordPress plugin. This has been fixed and now the direct link is working again: http://www.yashlabs.com/wp/?p=77
Thanks for welcoming me, much appreciated,
Josh
